Nachdem ich Cadiz erkundet habe bin ich noch nach Jerez de la Frontera rüber gefahren. Hatte in meinem Lonely Planet von der Stadt gelesen das sie berühmt ist für Sherry… leider bin ich zu spät für eine Führung angekommen. Also bin ich auf den letzten Drücker in die örtliche arabisch/christliche Festung.

I decided to drive a longer way home by visiting Jerez after I explored Cadiz. I had read in my Lonely Planet that this town is famous for Sherry and is quite beautiful… unfortunately I arrived too late to get a guided tour. So i went in the last minute it was open to the local arabic/christian castle.

Hier findet man zum Beispiel eine zur Kirche umgebaute Moschee. Ich bin dann noch zur Kathedrale gelaufen wo ich das geniale Licht der untergehenden Sonne zum fotografieren genutzt habe.

Als es dann dunkel wurde bin ich wieder mit dem Auto zu meiner “Basis” Algeciras gefahren…

FlickrLink: Jerez de la Frontera

Am Montag bin ich dann nach Cadiz gefahren. Ich hab das Auto von José ausgeliehen da er die Woche arbeiten mußte. Also bin ich alleine mit ner schlechten Karte und meinem Lonely Planet (LP) durch den spanischen Verkehr gefahren. Aber so schlimm wars nicht, ich konnte den Verkehr meistern. Nach ca. 2 Stunden habe ich die Stadt erreicht, mir einen Parkplatz gesucht und bin mit dem Bus in die Innenstadt gefahren.

On monday I went to Cadiz. With the car from José because he had to work during that week. All by myself only with a crappy map and my Lonely Planet (LP) the first time in spanish traffic. But it was not so bad at all. I could handle the traffic in Andalusia. After almost two hours i reached the city. I found quickly a parking place and went by bus to the inner city.

Ich bin einfach ziellos durch die Stadt gelaufen um ein paar nette Plätze zu sehen. Ich hab einfach ein paar Sehenwürdigkeiten in meinem LP nachgeschaut. Irgendwann bin ich dann den Kirchtum hoch um die Aussicht zu geniessen.

I just walked through the city seeing some nice places. I looked up some nice sights in my LP and at one point went to the big church to have a look over the city.

Nachdem ich Ausgiebig geschaut hatte bin ich den Turm wieder herruntergewandert… (es gab keine Treppenstufen!)

Nach ein wenig mehr Sight Seeing in der Stadt bin ich wieder zurück zum Auto und zur nächsten Stadt gefahren…

FlickrLink: Cadiz

Ausgeschlafen sind wir dann durch die City gelaufen. José hat mir die besten Kneipen für Frühstück (Bier&Tapas) und Ecken der Stadt gezeigt. Zum Beispiel die Kneipen-und-Kopierladen-Strasse direkt neben dem Campus. Wir haben uns auch nochmal die Innenstadt bei Tag angeschaut. Im Sonnenschein sah zum Beispiel die Hauptkirche noch beeindruckender aus.

After a long sleep we wet through the city. José showed me the best bars for late breakfast (beer&tapas) and corners of the city. For example the street of bars and copyshops right next to the campus. We went also again to the old part of the city to see it in daylight. The cathedral for example looked even more impressive.

Der alte noch aus arabischen Zeiten stammende Markt ist echt toll. Enge Gassen, kleine Läden und die Ware teilweise auf der “Strasse”. Gewuerz und Teegeruch in der Luft!

The old arabic market is really great. Small streets, tiny shops and the offered stuff presented on the street. The smell of herbs and tee in the air!

Nachdem wir mit ein paar Freunden von José einen Tee getrunken haben sind wir noch auf hoch zu einem Aussichtpunkt gestiegen um einen Blick auf die Alhambra zu werfen. Ein traumhafter Blick bei untergehender Sonne. Im Hintergrund kann man die schneebedeckten Berge sehen die in ca. einer Stunde zum Snowboarden zu erreichen sind.

We met some friends of José for some tee there and went then to a viewpoint over the city and the Alhambra. A really cool view to see the old castle and in the background the snowy mountains. You can get there for snowboarding in about one hour.

Danach gings dann mit dem Auto nach Algeciras wo José arbeitet.. Erstes Wochenende schon rum!

Afterwards we went by car to Algeciras where José is working. First weekend already over….

FlickrLink: “Granada”

Hey Leute,

mit diesem Eintrag starte ich eine Serie über meinen letzten Urlaub. I war für eine Woche in Spanien. Hauptsächlich habe ich meinen guten Freund José besucht. Ich hatte noch eine Woche Urlaub im letzten Jahr über, also hab ich die Gelegenheit genutzt und hab Spanien besucht. I hab ne Menge von Andalusien gesehen und noch mehr. Ich hatte echt Glück mit dem Wetter und ich hab ein paar Leute getroffen die ich das letzte Mal in Finnland gesehen habe. Es war eine großartige Woche.
Ich bin nach Malaga geflogen wo José schon auf mich gewartet hat. Wir haben dann spontan entschlossen nach Granada zu fahren. Seine Schwester wohnt dort und er hat dort studiert. Nachdem wir unsere Sachen in die Wohnung gepackt haben sind wir direkt los. Erstmal eine kurze Tour durch die Altstadt und Tapas gegessen. (Dort bekommt man automatisch Tapas serviert wenn man Bier bestellt!) Später sind wir dann durch ein paar von José’s Lieblingsbars gezogen und haben versucht einen Club zum dancen zu finden. Wir haben einen gefunden…. und es war ein spassiger Abend!

with this post i start the series of my last vacation. I went to spain for one week. Mostly visiting my good friend José in Algeciras. I had one week of holidays left in the last year so i took the chance to travel to spain. I saw a lot of Andalusia and more. I was so lucky with the wheather and i met some people i saw last time in Finland. It was a great week!
I went to Malaga and José came there to get me from the airport. We went spontanously to Granada where his sister is living and he was studying. After putting our stuff to the apartment we had a quick tour through the old part of the city and had some tapas. (Nice thing is that you get tapas automatically when yu order beer!) Later we went to some of José favourite bars and tried to find a place to dance a bit. We found one… and it was a really fun evening!
