Heute ist ein Montag und zwar der letzte Tag für mich an der Westküste. Wir haben beschlossen ins Aquarium zu fahren, nachdem wir gelesen haben das es dort jetzt einen weißen Hai gibt!

Nach unserem Besuch haben wir bei einem Starbucks Kaffee entschieden noch zum Campus in Stanford zu fahren… ziemlich beeindruckender Ort:

Danach sind wir noch in die Stanford Einkaufsmall gefahren um da mal durch zu bummeln. Dann gings erstmal nach Hause wo ich noch meine Wäsche in den Trockner gestopft habe… als Abschlussessen sind wir alle zum Wok-Express gefahren! Abends hat mich Chris dann zum Flughafen gebracht und mein Flug Richtung New York ging um 11:56 los…. Fortsetzung folgt

Later we drove to the Stanford shoping mall just to stroll a bit through it. Then first home because i had to dry my clothes… as a final dinner we went alltogether to the Wok-Express! In the evening Chris drove me to the airport and my flight to New York started at 11:56…. to be continued

Ja ihr lest richtig, nach dem Clubbing haben wir uns zum dösen und so an den Pool gelegt. In der Appartment-Anlage gab es ein fettes Schwimmbecken samt Whirlpool. Das Wasser hat eine angenehme Temparatur, allerdings wurde das Sonnenbaden etwas durch kleine Wölkchen behindert. Zum Abendessen sind wir dann zum In’n’Out (Mjam ) und später mit Olli (Arbeitspause, an einem Sonntag!) ins Kino und haben uns ‘The Departed’ angeschaut. Also ein entspannter Tag.

Yes, you read that right, after we spend the night clubbing we went for some relaxing to the pool. The apparment complex had a biig pool and a nice hot tub next to it. The water had the right temperature but some small clouds disturbed our sun bathing. For dinner we drove to In’n’Out (yummy ) and later with Olli (working break, on a sunday 1) to the cinema to watch ‘The Departed’. Quite relaxing day.

Am Samstag haben wir uns mit den beiden Brüdern von Harry zum Lunch beim japanischen Restaurant To-Dai getroffen. Dort gab es hervorragendes Sushi Buffet (+ warme Speisen und super Desserts). Es hat allen (selbst dem Chris ) super geschmeckt. Auch sehr cool mal mit jemanden zu quatschen der schon länger in den USA arbeitet. (Beide Brüder von Harry arbeiten in den USA).

On saturday we met at the japanese restaurant ‘To Dai’ with the two brothers of Harry. There we had a great sushi buffet (plus warm dishes and awesome dessert). Everybody (even Chris) liked it. Also very cool to talk to someone who is working long time in US of A. (both brothers of Harry work in the US).

Den Rest des Tages haben wir ganz entspannt verbracht… ein wenig durch die Shopping-Mall geschlendert in dem auch das Restaurant war… bei Fry (US-Version von MediaMarkt) vorbei und so. Auch laturnich abhängen in Olli’s Wohnung (Der Olli hat glaub ich schwer gearbeitet, wenn ich mich recht entsinne!)

The rest of the day we spent quite relaxed… some walking through a shopping mall… stopping by at Fry’s (an electronic store) and so on. Of course also some hanging around in Olli’s flat (when i remember right, Olli was working really hard that day!)

Sillicon Valley!

Für Abends hatten wir uns fest vorgenommen in SF ordentlich Feiern zu gehen. Als haben wir das Internet gecheckt und nach guten Clubs gesucht und diesen Club gefunden: Cat Club wo laut irgendwelchen Flyern eine super Party sein sollte… Wir sind also hin und haben uns in die Schlange gestellt… Irgendwas passte allerdings nicht. Irgendwie nur Frauen. Absolut nur Frauen in der Schlange. Also haben wir uns erkundigt und festgestellt das dort eine Lesbenparty stattfand. Humpf. Nunja, kann in SF ja mal passieren.
Wir haben uns dann kurzerhand einfach mal nebenan angestellt. Dort fand eine Eröffnungsparty statt, die uns zu teuer war (und mir die Leute auch zu fein). Also hat Harry einfach mal nen Mädel aus einer Gruppe angequatscht die auch etwas ratlos waren…. Maggie (die Hauptsächlich mit uns gequatscht hat) stellte sich als Teil einer Geburtstagsparty raus. Also flux der 25. jährigen gratuliert und mit der Truppe zu einem weiteren Club gegangen. Wir haben dann schliesslich einen guten Lcub mit 5$ Eintritt gefunden und uns zu teilweise merkwürdiger Mash-Up Musik amüsiert! (Ausserdem eine beachtliche Frauenquote in dem Laden , wenn ich nur wüsste wie der hieß! (Chris? Harry? Olli?). Der Olli hat uns dann netterweise am Ende des Abend wieder nach Hause gefahren!

For the evening we planned to go out in SF! So we checked some website for a good party and found one in this one: Cat Club. So we went there and queued to get in… but something was wrong. Somehow only women. Absolutely only women in the queue.. so we asked around got informed that there was a lesbian party there in that evening. Hmpf, that can happen in SF!
So we just queued for the club next door where a opening party was going on. That one was too expensive for us (and in my opinion a bit too fancy). Harry quickly just asked a girl from a group which was also talking about where to go. Maggie (that was her name) was part of a bigger group which was celebrating a 25th birthday… so we joined them in the search for another place. After walking down a lot of blocks we arrived finally at a really nice ‘5$ entrance’-club. The DJ was playing some weird mash up music but we had great fun there! (a lot of really good looking girls there! damn i don’t know the name of that place!) In the end of the evening Olli was so nice to drive us home.

so mal wieder ein weiterer Teil unserer USA Reise… es ist der 21. Oktober 2006 (boah so lange is das schon her!) und wir fahren nach Santa Cruz bei blauem Himmel und damit super Wetter. Harry hat sich an den Strand geflätzt und Chris und ich haben uns den Pier angeschaut:

here comes another part of our great journey to the US of A… it is the 21st of october (wow, that long ago!) and we drive to Santa Cruz under blue sky. Harry decided to enjoy the beach for a while and Chris and me walked into the pier.

wir haben dann noch ein wenig den Seehund zugeschaut und haben uns dann den Boardwalk angeschaut:

Dort am Strand haben wir den Harry wieder eingesammelt und sind noch ein wenig in Stadt und sind durch die Haupteinkaufsstrasse von Santa Cruz gelaufen. Dort gabs mal wieder ‘Baja Fresh’ und ein ‘Jamba Juice’...
Auf dem Rückweg haben wir einen Stop in der Half Moon Bay gemacht und uns den Sonnenuntergang angeschaut:

Nach unserem super Road-Trip haben wir uns etwas entspannt… nach gemütlichem Ausschlafen ging es mit Harry in Richtung ‘Big Mall’. Das war dann mein erstes Mal in einem amerikanischen Einkaufszentrum! Eine feine Sache an US of A ist ja das man Markenklamotten recht günstig in Outlet Stores oder auch in normalen Läden kaufen kann. Also haben wir einen auf “shop til you drop” gemacht… hier meine Ausbeute (vom gesamten USA Aufenthalt):

After our great road trip we did some relaxing activity… after sleeping quite long we drove with Harry to the big mall. That was my first time in an american mall. Really nice thing is that you can buy actually quite cheap some brand clothes in outlet and normal stores. So we did some ‘shop til you drop’ there… here what i got (during my whole stay in US of A):

Ausserdem haben wir im “Food Court” gegessen. Also das hat mir wohl gefallen… so’n coolen Timberland Store hatten die da auch …. hummm!
Abends sind wir dann zum Sagen umwobenen “Los Gatos” gefahren… ich hatte schon einige Stories gehört und mich schon ziemlich drauf gefreut. Leider wurden wir Enttäuscht denn es war so gut wie nichts los. Immerhin habe ich zum Schluss vom Barkeeper einen Drink ausgegeben bekommen, vielleicht weil ich gutes Trinkgeld gegeben habe?! keine Ahnung.

Furthermore we ate in the food court. I liked it there.. there was also a nice Timberland store… hummm!
In the evening we drove to the legendary “Los Gatos”. I had heard already some spectacular stories and was looking forward to it. Unfortunately we were disappointed because almost nothing was going on. At least i got a free drink in the end of the evening from the barkeeper, maybe i gave good tip?! no idea.

Am Mittwoch haben wir dann unsere Tour beended. Ich habe den Olli früh morgens zum Flughafen gebracht, der zum Glück nicht so weit entfernt war. Olli ist dann direkt in San Francisco vom Flughafen zur Arbeit gefahren…
Wir haben dann beschlossen direkt ohne Umweg durch das Death Valley nach SF zurück zu fahren. An dem Tag waren wir dann auch ca. 10 Stunden (450 Meilen, inklusive Pausen) unterwegs. Auf unserem Roadtrip sind wir insgesamt in sieben Tagen 2920 Meilen gefahren. Bei Olli zuhause angekommen haben wir erstmal Wäsche gewaschen und TV geglotzt. Für Christian und mich war Olli’s WG unsere Basis sozusagen. Nochmal fettes Dankeschön dafür an Olli!

On wednesday we ended our tour. I brought Olli early in the morning to the airport in Las Vegas, which was luckily not far away from the hostel. Olli went directly to work in San Francisco…
We decided to drive directly without a detour through Death Valley back to SF. On that day we drove about 10 hours (450 miles, inclusive pauses). On the hole roadtrip we drove in seven days all in all about 2920 miles. When we arrived at Olli’s home we did our laundry and watched some american TV. The apartment from Olli was kind of base for Chris and me. Thanks again for that to Olli!

Als nächstes Ziel stand der Bryce Canyon auf dem Plan. Olli hat im Internet die Wetterlage gecheckt und festgestellt das dort schon Schnee liegt und höchstwahrscheinlich einiges im Park gesperrt sein wird. Darum haben wir uns entschlossen direkt nach Las Vegas zu fahren. Wie man auf dem nächsten Bild sehen kann auch wohl eine gute Idee:

Our next planned destination was the Bryce Canyon. Olli was checking in the internet for the wheather and saw that in that region will be some snow and most likely some roads inside the park closed. So we decided to drive directly to Las Vegas. It was a good idea, in my opinion, as you can see on the next picture:

Nachdem Olli den größten Teil der Fahrt nach Las Vegas übernommen hatte (oder sogar komplett?!) und tapfer Steinen von verrückten Truckern ausgewichen ist sind wir in Las Vegas angekommen …

After Olli drove the most of the way to Las Vegas (or did he drive all the way?!) and bravely avoided a stone falling from a crazy truck we arrived in Las Vegas …

ziemlich häßlich bei Tag | quite ugly in daylight

Wir sind erstmal den Strip runtergefahren und ins Motel 6 eingecheckt (etwas teuerer dort als auf den Dörfer) und dann rüber zum Mandalay Bay Hotel/Casino um uns ein leckeres Buffet zu gönnen:

First of all after we drove down the strip and checked in our Motel 6 (this time a bit more expensive than in the villages) we went to the Mandalay Bay Hotel/Casino. There we had a nice buffet:

Dort haben wir uns soo richtig vollgefressen. Wir konnten kaum noch laufen. Der krönende Abschluss war der Schokoladenbrunnen in der Dessertabteilung. Danach sind wir den ganzen Abend lang den Strip runter gelaufen und haben uns diverse Casinos wie das Ceasars Palace, die Wassershow beim Bellagio, das Venetian und das Wynn angeschaut. Den Abschluss haben die etwas älteren und billigeren Casinos wie das Frontier, Circus Circus und das Sahara gemacht. Wir sind dann mit platten Füßen mit der Mono-Rail zurück zum Motel gefahren. Hier ein paar Eindrücke:

So we ate as much as we can. We couldn’t walk any more. The best was the chocolate fountain in the dessert area. Then we walked down the strip and had a look into several casinos like the Ceasars Palace, the Venetian, the Wynn and at the watershowin front of Bellagio. The last Casinos we saw were the older and cheap ones like Frontier, Circus Circus and Sahara. From there we took the mono rail back to the motel. Here some impressions:

Insgesamt eine echt verrückte Stadt… die man mal gesehen haben sollte! Nächstes mal schaue ich mir eine Show an… (dann werd ich auch mehr Geld in der Tasche haben )

All in all a very crazy city… you should have seen once! Next time i want to see a show… (and i will have some more money in my pocket )

Inzwischen ist es Montag, 16. Oktober und wir holen Harry als erstes vom Krankenhaus ab. Um es kurz zu machen: er hatte wohl eine Lebensmittelvergiftung und Fieber in der Nacht bekommen. Alles in allem eine harte Nacht hinter sich, um 1000$ oder so erleichtert und verdammt müde. Wir sind jedenfalls erstmal zum Supermarkt und haben uns einen Sandwich gegönnt… (Harry war natürlich auf Diät für 48 Stunden)

At this point it is monday the 16th october and we get Harry back from the hospital. Long story short: he had most probably a food poisoning and got fever during the night. After all he had a hard night, ‘lost’ about 1000$ and was very tired. Then we went to a grocery store and had a nice sandwich… (Harry was not allowed to eat for 48 hours)

Dann sind wir mit dem Auto zum Canyonlands NP gefahren. Der war jetzt nicht soo spektakulär… aber riesige Canyons gab es dort zu bestaunen. Und wir hatten Glück mit dem Wetter. (wieder mal!)

First sight on that day was Canyonland NP. That one was not so spectacular… but huge canyons you can see there! We had quite luck with the wheather. (again!)

Danach sind wir zum Arches NP gefahren mit dem Plan den ‘Delicate Arch’, das Wahrzeichen von Utah bei Sonnenuntergang zu erleben. Es hat sich herrausgestellt das man nicht mit dem Auto direkt zu diesem Bogen fahren konnte. Also haben wir uns auf eine kleine Wanderung begeben, nachdem wir ein paar weitere Bögen im Park gesehen hatten.

Later we drove to the Arches NP with the idea to have a look at the ‘Delicate Arch’, the state’s landmark of Utah at sunset. When we arrived we got to know that we could not drive near the arch. After we saw some other arches we made a short hike there.

Nach ca. 45 Minuten waren wir dann an diesem echt schönen Bogen. Wie man sieht haben wir Sonnenschein gehabt, allerdings gab es Gewitter einige Kilometer entfernt zu sehen. Deswegen haben wir nicht mehr bis zum Sonnenuntergang gewartet und sind leider noch Nass geworden auf dem Abstieg… so sah der Himmel übrigens aus:

After our 45 minute of hiking we arrived at that really nice arch. We got some sun beams, as you can see, but some miles away were already some lightnings to see. Because of that we did not wait for the sunset and unfortunately we got wet on our way back to the car… btw: that was what the sky was looking like:
