Nachdem ich Cadiz erkundet habe bin ich noch nach Jerez de la Frontera rüber gefahren. Hatte in meinem Lonely Planet von der Stadt gelesen das sie berühmt ist für Sherry… leider bin ich zu spät für eine Führung angekommen. Also bin ich auf den letzten Drücker in die örtliche arabisch/christliche Festung.

I decided to drive a longer way home by visiting Jerez after I explored Cadiz. I had read in my Lonely Planet that this town is famous for Sherry and is quite beautiful… unfortunately I arrived too late to get a guided tour. So i went in the last minute it was open to the local arabic/christian castle.

Hier findet man zum Beispiel eine zur Kirche umgebaute Moschee. Ich bin dann noch zur Kathedrale gelaufen wo ich das geniale Licht der untergehenden Sonne zum fotografieren genutzt habe.

There you can find a mosque which is turned into a church. Afterward i went to the cathedral of Jerez to make some photos in the beautiful light of sundawn.

Als es dann dunkel wurde bin ich wieder mit dem Auto zu meiner “Basis” Algeciras gefahren…

unsere Route: Laguna de Canaima—> Isla Raton (Groß/Large)

Mittags wurden die Gruppen eingeteilt. Wir sind in eine insgesamt 13 Leute große Truppe gekommen. Wir habe dann die drei Tage mit drei Venezolanern, einem Holländer, einer Japanerin, einem Italiener und vier Spaniern verbracht. Das war eine sehr nette und nicht zu große Truppe! Danach wurde uns unser Guide vorgestellt:

Directly after arriving in the camp we got divided into groups. Our group was 13 people all in all big. We spent our three days trip with three Venezuelan, one Dutch, one Japanese, one Italian and four Spanish. It was a really nice and not too big group! Afterwards we got to know our guide:

Wir sind dann direkt noch vor dem Mittagessen los. Wir sind dann ca. 4 Stunden mit dem Boot den Fluss entlang gefahren. Allen hat nach ca. einer Stunde angefangen der Arsch auf den harten Holzbänken weh zu tun. Autsch.

We started our trip even before lunch. We went by boat along the river for about four hours. Everbody hurt the ass after about an hour because of the hard wooden benches. Outch!

Allerdings sind wir durch die wunderschöne Natur gefahren. Tafelberge. Wahnsinn!

Also wir dann angekommen waren ist der Salto Angel leider etwas im Nebel verschwunden. Wir sind noch näher an den Fluss herangewandert… hat sich aber nicht so wirklich gelohnt. Also wir im Lager angekommen waren wurde es schon bald Dunkel. Unser Lager war im Prinzip nur ein grosser Unterstand mit Toilettenräumen und einen Raum zum Zubereiten des Essens. Nach einer kurzen Nacht in Hängematten hab ich dann erstmal meine Zähne mit Zahnpasta und Flusswasser am Fusse des höchsten Wasserfalls der Welt geputzt.

As we arrived to Salto Angel the waterfall was disappearing in fog. We hiked more near it… but that was not really nessecary. As we arrived back in our Camp it started to get dark. Our camp was basically only a big roof with some toilette rooms and one room for preparing the food attached. After a short night in the hammock i brushed my teeth with toothpaste and river water in front of the highest waterfall on earth.

Nach unserer etwas laenger als geplant dauernden Reise sind wir dann schliesslich in Ciudad Bolivar angekommen.

After our bit longer travel than planned we arrived safely in Ciudad Bolivar.

Wir haben leider in unserer Wunsch-Posada aufgrund von Doppelbuchungen kein Zimmer mehr bekommen. Glücklicherweise besaß der Mann einer der Putzfrauen eine kleinere Posada wo wir unterkommen konnten. Natürlich nicht so schön aber völlig O.K. für eine Nacht. Wir sind direkt zum Flughafen um eine Tour nach Canaima zu buchen gefahren.

Unfortunately we couldn’t get our favourite posada because our room was double booked. During our discussion with the owner of the posada, a woman which was cleaning there, offered us a room in her husbands posada some blocks away. That one was not so nice but completely OK for one night. We went directly to the airport to book a tour to Canaima.

Wir haben Glück gehabt und konnten noch etwas direkt für den nächsten Tag bekommen. Wir sind dann mit dem Taxi wieder zurück direkt an den Orinoco um den Sonnenuntergang mitzubekommen. Hat grad noch geklappt!

We had the luck to get one tour for the next morning as we wanted. Afterwards we drove directly with the taxi to the Orinoco to see the sunset over the river. We just made it!

Abends gab es noch zufällig ein Jazzfestival welches wir uns natürlich angesehen haben. (Es war ein Open Air und gratis Konzert!)

Today is a monday and the last one for me at the westcoast. We decided to drive to the aquarium after we read that they have a white shark there now!

Nach unserem Besuch haben wir bei einem Starbucks Kaffee entschieden noch zum Campus in Stanford zu fahren… ziemlich beeindruckender Ort:

Danach sind wir noch in die Stanford Einkaufsmall gefahren um da mal durch zu bummeln. Dann gings erstmal nach Hause wo ich noch meine Wäsche in den Trockner gestopft habe… als Abschlussessen sind wir alle zum Wok-Express gefahren! Abends hat mich Chris dann zum Flughafen gebracht und mein Flug Richtung New York ging um 11:56 los…. Fortsetzung folgt

Later we drove to the Stanford shoping mall just to stroll a bit through it. Then first home because i had to dry my clothes… as a final dinner we went alltogether to the Wok-Express! In the evening Chris drove me to the airport and my flight to New York started at 11:56…. to be continued
