Am Freitag war ja Ex-Mitstudenten treffen in Osnabrück… war echt cool sich mal wieder zu sehen und sich gegenseitig upzudaten. Nächstes Mal wird aber an einem Samstagabend etwas länger durchgehalten (bzw. ein paar mehr hinkommen) ... waren zum Schluss nur noch drei People. Aber das war trotzdem noch recht lustig! Bernd, da geht noch was, und die Kiste hab ich nicht vergessen!
Am Sonntagmorgen gings dann Richtung D-Dorf, natürlich ziemlich verschlafen wenn man erst um 5 nach Hause kommt. Es gab allerdings superklasse Mittagessen und ich konnte mein Weihnachts/Geburtstagsgeschenk-Kombination überreichen. (Ein gerahmtes Panoramafoto). Abends ging es per Bahn von Düsseldorf wieder Richtung Hamburg…

On friday we made a ex-fellow-students meeting in Osnabrück and it was really cool to meet each other again and update each other. But next time on a saturday evening please try to stay longer (or come at all) ... in the end we where only three people. Anyway it was a lot of fun! Bernd, ‘da geht noch was!’ and i can remember the box of beer!
On sundaymorning we drove to D-Dorf and iwas quite sleepy… no wonder after going to bed around 5. Joschi made some awesome lunch and i could give him my christmas/birthday gift. (a nicely framed panorama photo). In the evening i took the train back to Hamburg.

Am Samstag haben wir uns mit den beiden Brüdern von Harry zum Lunch beim japanischen Restaurant To-Dai getroffen. Dort gab es hervorragendes Sushi Buffet (+ warme Speisen und super Desserts). Es hat allen (selbst dem Chris ) super geschmeckt. Auch sehr cool mal mit jemanden zu quatschen der schon länger in den USA arbeitet. (Beide Brüder von Harry arbeiten in den USA).

On saturday we met at the japanese restaurant ‘To Dai’ with the two brothers of Harry. There we had a great sushi buffet (plus warm dishes and awesome dessert). Everybody (even Chris) liked it. Also very cool to talk to someone who is working long time in US of A. (both brothers of Harry work in the US).

Den Rest des Tages haben wir ganz entspannt verbracht… ein wenig durch die Shopping-Mall geschlendert in dem auch das Restaurant war… bei Fry (US-Version von MediaMarkt) vorbei und so. Auch laturnich abhängen in Olli’s Wohnung (Der Olli hat glaub ich schwer gearbeitet, wenn ich mich recht entsinne!)

The rest of the day we spent quite relaxed… some walking through a shopping mall… stopping by at Fry’s (an electronic store) and so on. Of course also some hanging around in Olli’s flat (when i remember right, Olli was working really hard that day!)

Sillicon Valley!

Für Abends hatten wir uns fest vorgenommen in SF ordentlich Feiern zu gehen. Als haben wir das Internet gecheckt und nach guten Clubs gesucht und diesen Club gefunden: Cat Club wo laut irgendwelchen Flyern eine super Party sein sollte… Wir sind also hin und haben uns in die Schlange gestellt… Irgendwas passte allerdings nicht. Irgendwie nur Frauen. Absolut nur Frauen in der Schlange. Also haben wir uns erkundigt und festgestellt das dort eine Lesbenparty stattfand. Humpf. Nunja, kann in SF ja mal passieren.
Wir haben uns dann kurzerhand einfach mal nebenan angestellt. Dort fand eine Eröffnungsparty statt, die uns zu teuer war (und mir die Leute auch zu fein). Also hat Harry einfach mal nen Mädel aus einer Gruppe angequatscht die auch etwas ratlos waren…. Maggie (die Hauptsächlich mit uns gequatscht hat) stellte sich als Teil einer Geburtstagsparty raus. Also flux der 25. jährigen gratuliert und mit der Truppe zu einem weiteren Club gegangen. Wir haben dann schliesslich einen guten Lcub mit 5$ Eintritt gefunden und uns zu teilweise merkwürdiger Mash-Up Musik amüsiert! (Ausserdem eine beachtliche Frauenquote in dem Laden , wenn ich nur wüsste wie der hieß! (Chris? Harry? Olli?). Der Olli hat uns dann netterweise am Ende des Abend wieder nach Hause gefahren!

For the evening we planned to go out in SF! So we checked some website for a good party and found one in this one: Cat Club. So we went there and queued to get in… but something was wrong. Somehow only women. Absolutely only women in the queue.. so we asked around got informed that there was a lesbian party there in that evening. Hmpf, that can happen in SF!
So we just queued for the club next door where a opening party was going on. That one was too expensive for us (and in my opinion a bit too fancy). Harry quickly just asked a girl from a group which was also talking about where to go. Maggie (that was her name) was part of a bigger group which was celebrating a 25th birthday… so we joined them in the search for another place. After walking down a lot of blocks we arrived finally at a really nice ‘5$ entrance’-club. The DJ was playing some weird mash up music but we had great fun there! (a lot of really good looking girls there! damn i don’t know the name of that place!) In the end of the evening Olli was so nice to drive us home.

Nun… diese Filme habe ich mir die letzten zwei Wochen im Kino angeschaut. The good shepherd(Der gute Hirte) ist ein klasse Film über die Entstehung der CIA und spielt also vom zweiten Weltkrieg bis zur Kubakrise… Etwas Wissen über die Geschichte speziell die Rolle Amerika’s im Weltkrieg und im kalten Krieg ist doch nützlich! [team americamode]MATT DAMON[/team-america-mode] überzeugt in der Hauptrolle und überhaupt toller Film von de Niro.
‘The Hitcher’ hingegen ist ein gradliniger “Teenie-Pärchen wird von Killer verfolgt”-Movie. Ordentlich Blutig und Sean Bean tut ordentlich böse Sachen.
Der Zaubererfilm mit Hugh Jackman und Christopher Bale ist ein super Film. Ich liebe ja so Rätsel/Twist Filme… und obwohl dieser nicht so schwierig zu durchschauen war, war es trotzdem spannend bis zum Schluss. Auch Klasse das es keiner von beiden der Gute war zu dem man halten konnte…

Ok… i watched these films during the last two weeks in the cinema. The good shepherd is a great movie about how the CIA was created and play from 2nd world war to the cuba crisis… some knowledge about the involvement of the USA in the 2nd WW and the cold war is quite useful! [team-america-voice]MATT DAMON[/team-america-voice] deliveres a believable acting and all in all a great movie from de Niro.
“The Hitcher” on the opposite was a staight forward ‘teenie couple haunted by killer’-movie. Quite brutal with a nice Sean Bean in the main role doing evil stuff.
TYhe magician movie with Hugh Jackman and Chirstopher Bale was cool. I really like this puzzle/twist movies… and even if this was quite easy to guess was it interresting till the end. The fact that none of them was really the good guy was also nice!

so mal wieder ein weiterer Teil unserer USA Reise… es ist der 21. Oktober 2006 (boah so lange is das schon her!) und wir fahren nach Santa Cruz bei blauem Himmel und damit super Wetter. Harry hat sich an den Strand geflätzt und Chris und ich haben uns den Pier angeschaut:

wir haben dann noch ein wenig den Seehund zugeschaut und haben uns dann den Boardwalk angeschaut:

Auf dem Rückweg haben wir einen Stop in der Half Moon Bay gemacht und uns den Sonnenuntergang angeschaut:

Man kann ganz wunderbar mit der Tastenkombination ‘Apfel’+’q’ in OS X Programme schliessen. (Intuitiver als ‘Alt’+’f4’ wie ich finde)... allerdings befindet sich an meinem Windowsrechner das ‘@’-Zeichen hinter der Tastenkombination ‘Alt gr’+’q’ was dazu führt das ich Abend nach einem Tag am Windows Rechner hin und wieder versehentlich Programme unter OS X schliesse.

Jaja, das sind Probleme…

With OS X you can close a program with the combination ‘apple’+’q’. (which is more intuitve than ‘Alt’+’f4’ i think)... on the other hand on my windows machine you can get the ‘@’-symbol with the combination ‘alt gr’-’q’ which leads to accidently closing programs now and then in the evening after a day at a windows machine in OS X environment.

Yes, these are problems …

doing some party in New Orleans!

Vor ungefaehr zweieinhalb Wochen ist dieses Foto entstanden… in New Orleans. Dort fand die Prolifics Exchange 2007 statt. Das heißt dort haben sich ca. 150 Mitarbeiter getroffen und eine Menge Vorträge gehört, sehr gut gespeist und sich Abends amüsiert.

unser Zimmer | our room

Wir am Mittwochmorgen los und Abends im Hotel eingecheckt. Nach einem Kurzausflug ins French Quarter und einem Dinner gings total übermüded ins Bett. Am Donnerstag hatten wir bis zum Empfang Abends zur freien Verfügung. Ich bin mit 4 Kollegen zu einem Outletpark gefahren… Habe leider nur ein paar Schuhe gefunden.
Am Abend gab es ein lecker Buffet, eine kleine Jazzband und den Empfang… Freitagmorgen gings los mit der Session vom CEO, gefolgt von hochrangigen IBM Leuten. Es war ganz schön anstrengend den ganzen Tag Vorträge über teils mir total unbekannte Themen zu hören.

We left on wednesday morning and checked in in the evening. After a short trip into the french quarter and a dinner we all went really tired to bed. On thursday we had some free time til the opening in the evening. I went with four german colleagues to an outlet parc… Just found one pair of shoes.
A nice buffet, a jazz band were waiting for us in the evening and there we met first time the american colleagues. On friday morning the presentations started and went the hole day, starting with our CEO and following some high rank IBM folks. It was quite exhausting to listen the hole day…

Allerdings gab es zum Ausgleich abends eine Missisippi Dampfer fahrt mit lecker Buffet. Danach gings wieder auf die Bourbon Street (wie auch am Donnerstag nach dem Empfang).
Am Samstag gab es weitere Sessions und zum Lunch eine Lunchbox, weil wir mit Bussen zu einer Schule in New Orleans gefahren sind. Auf dem Weg hat uns eine Lehrerin der Schule ihre Erlebnisse während des Sturms geschildert und die heutige Lage erläutert. Wir sind auch durch die zerstörten gegenden gefahren. Noch immer Leben sehr viele Menschen in Wohnwagen vor ihren Häusern oder sind noch nicht zurückgekehrt.
In der Schule haben wir dann geholfen neue Bücher zu sortieren, Wandgemälde auszumalen, das Treppengeländer abzubeizen und haben zwei Badezimmer gestrichen und ein Theaterstück aufgeführt. Das ganze hat eine Menge Spass gemacht, da die Kinder uns kräftig unterstützt haben

On Saturday of course some more sessions and for lunch just a lunchbox because we drove to a school in New Orleans. During the way a teacher from the school explained to us her experience during the storm Katarina and the situation today in the city. We also drove through some still destroyed parts… there are still a lot of people living in trailer or not came back to their houses.
In the school we helped to sort new books, paint murals, renovate the staircase, paint the walls of bathrooms and put costumes on for a small play. That was the most fun because the kids were helping very much!

Am Samstagabend gabs es dann, leicht zu erraten, wieder lecker Dinner. Und zwar im besten Restaurant von New Orleans hatte Prolifics die obere Etage reserviert und es gab ein vier Gängemenü. Boah, war das lecker…
Danach wieder in die Bourbon Street? Sicher, allerdings sind uns im Jazzschuppen die Augen (fast) zugefallen.
Am Sonntag gab es noch weiteres Programm bis Mittags und nachmittags ging es wieder richtung Germany… wo wir dann am Montag nachmittag wieder sicher gelandet sind.

Afterwars again to bourbon street for some real jazz. On sunday some more program til midday and in the afternoon back to germany… where we arrived on monday afternoon safely.
